The invention of glasses has now caused many questions we have now. Who created eyeglasses? Why? How did someone know that this invention would help many people around the world? With the information we have now, its hard to know who actually created the first pair of wearable eyeglasses. Some sources claim that Salvino D'Armate, a 13th century Italian, was the one but other sources speculate that it was not him and that whoever created glasses is still unknown to this day.
The first pair of wearable glasses are said to be created sometime between 1268 and 1300 in Italy. Eyeglasses were basically two reading stones (magnifying glasses) connected with a hinge balanced on the bridge of the nose. The Romans first discovered the ability to use glass to enhance their ability to see small text by creating magnifying glasses with spheres. The earliest glasses were prescribed for Hyperopia, farsightedness.

Yes, of course, the inventions that came before, like using a glass bowl and filling it with water to magnify text, did work and had sparked the idea of eyeglasses but the reason wearable eyeglasses went so far and were so successful as because they were practical and convenient. Some people couldn't read that well while some people genuinely had eye problems and couldn't see. Life for them was a blur.
